Sun Java Certification

Free-online resources or links to books for sale

I'm a student and student by nature like to save every penny so he/she can use it on more "reasonable, important" etc. things like go down to pub. We know that books are expensive so this few links can help you save few pennies.



Sun Certified Java Associate (SCJA)
This exam is only entering point into application development more suitable for these looking into project management career. Participant is introduced to basic concepts of object-oriented programming with light introduction into programming, basics of UML and general knowledge of Java Platform Technologies and what it has to offer. At the present time unfortunately there is no up-to-date book available for this course. Amazon site is advertising arrive of new book at 28 Feb 2009, but this is already overdue for few days. Sun Certified Java Programmer (SCJP)
The exam is targeting to examinate your knowledge of the Java programming language, detailed understanding of syntax, common APIs. In exam you are asked which of provided answers is correct and you are not asked to explain why. To take this exam YOU DO NOT HAVE TO HAVE SCJA certification. Just be warned these are only Limited preview so sometimes you may not be able to access some sections, similar to Safari service A Programmer's Guide to Java™ SCJP Certification: A Comprehensive Primer, Third Edition

Sun Certified Java Developer (SCJD)

This is performance-based certification to demonstrate advanced proficiency in the Java programming language using the Java SE. Candidates must successfully complete two elements: a project assignment (with unlimited amount of time to complete this project) and an essay exam ( to verify that you designed and built the project).

Prior to attempting certification, candidates must be certified as a Sun Certified Programmer (SCJP), any edition.


SCJD Exam with J2SE 5 , hopefully soon there will be new title from McGraw-Hill.


Sun Certified Web Component Developer (SCWCD)

This is for developers specializing in Java web development. The exam is based on Java Server Pages (JSP) and servlet technologies used to build web applications.
To achieve this certification, candidates must successfully complete one exam.

Prior to attempting certification, candidates must be certified as a Sun Certified Programmer (SCJP), any edition.


I could not find online resources for this book so if you interested you will need to buy hard copy from Amazon for example or other tiles such as SCWCD Exam Study Kit: Java Web Component Development Certification (Amazon link),Head First Servlets and JSP: Passing the Sun Certified Web Component Developer Exam.


Sun Certified Business Component Developer (SCBCD)

For candidates specializing in Enterprise JavaBeans (EJB) to build business-tier applications.

Prior to attempting certification, candidates must be certified as a Sun Certified Programmer (SCJP), any edition.


I could not find online resources for this book so if you interested you will need to buy hard copy from of this title Scbcd Study Kit: Exam 310-090


Sun Certified Developer For Java Web Services (SCDJWS)

This exam is for candidates building applications using Java EE and Java Web Services Developer Pack technologies.

Prior to attempting certification, candidates must be certified as a Sun Certified Programmer (SCJP), any edition.

No free resources available at this time, however Amazon already advertise Sun Certified Developer for Java Web Services Study Guide (Exam 310-220) with availability from 15 Jun 2009


Sun Certified Mobile Application Developer (SCMAD)

This is for candidates developing applications embedded devices (mobile phones, PDS, smartphone or anything else that is too small run full version of Java, but able to handle Java Microedition). According to available information exam is covering Java Technology for Wireless Industry (JTWI) specification, the Wireless Messaging API and Mobile Media API.

Prior to attempting certification, candidates must be certified as a Sun Certified Programmer (SCJP), any edition.

At the present time there is no book available directly for this exam, so for now I would recommend to saty with Kicking Butt with MIDP and MSA: Creating Great Mobile Applications


Sun Certified Enterprise Architect (SCEA)

SCEA is exception amongs previous exams as it does not require from candidate to pass any previously mentioned exams. This exam is for enterprise architects responsible for architecting and designing Java EE compliant applications and consists of three pieces: a knowledge-based multiple-choice exam, an architectural design assignment, and essay exam. In order to get design assignment candidate have to first pass multiple-choice exam. Similary to Java developer exam (SCJD) you have unlimited time to finish this project that is then followed up by essay exam.
